Well in fact often this is not the case, Legally the majority of companies providing these types of transportation service are entitled under their contract conditions or applicable transport law to either totally exclude all liability for claims or to limit their liability based on the weight of the cargo being transported.
This in turn then usually results in claims payments being reduced or in fact much less than the loss actually suffered.
Where goods come from abroad, liability for compensation is similarly limited by UK law if the goods come into the UK via another country from another country which is a signatory to the agreement.
Also from our experience, claiming against such companies is a hugely time consuming and a difficult business involving areas of the law with which most importers, exporters and, indeed, most lawyers are not familiar.
